Tortoise time

 (via honestly wtf)

I've never really worn watches before. The whole thing confuses me a bit- I can't decide if it's supposed to be worn on your right hand or left, if it's supposed to fit snug or loosely like a bracelet. According to my sister (who will probably never be caught without a watch) says I'm "not a watch person". I think it might be because of my abnormally boney wrists and man-like hands. If I ever do decide to be a "watch person", I think I'll have to get one of these tortoise watches. I love anything tortoise- sunglasses, headbands, bracelets. It matches with everything, and men and women have been wearing tortoise for ages. It's just one of those timeless pieces, like the classic white button-down, breton top, and black flats.

P.S.- The Breton top is my absolute favorite! It was first introduced to women by Coco, and famously worn by Warhal and Picasso. It also belongs to the french, sailors, writers, designers... there is even a blog dedicated to the Breton shirt! Crazy (but in a good way)!

Love Etc.

I've been getting really into documentaries lately- probably mostly because of my sister (HI DANA!)- and I've been seeing this trailer floating around a lot. Love Etc. is a doc about love, but not just the mushy stuff you see in every romance summer hit- it's  about all the kinds and stages of love...even the not-so-fluffy stuff.
LOVE ETC. is a witty, poignant and humorous exploration about the universal stages of love, depicted through five real stories over the course of one year in New York City. Young, old, gay, straight – everyone has experienced love – and the joy and frustration that come with it. From teen romance to a decades-long marriage; newlyweds to a recent divorcee, and even a bachelor so frustrated in his search that he chooses to have children without a partner, LOVE ETC. documents the intimate journeys of engaging characters aged 18-89 who reflect the city’s diversity, and takes an honest look at life's most challenging pursuit.

LOVE ETC. began with a concept from Executive Producer Jonathan Tisch, inspired by the day he spent waiting in line, with his fiancée Lizzie, for their marriage license at the City Hall Marriage Bureau. Surrounded by an incredible diversity of couples, they saw that everyone there was united by a common hope and belief in love. This room was a microcosm of the city, and New York City was a microcosm of the world.
It opens in LA on July 15th... you can get all the info here.

Also, speaking of documentaries, Joanna at Cup of Jo made a list of the ten best documentaries (I even read all 255 comments to see what documentaries other recommended! geeeeeek).

She also talks about how she gets together with her friend Scott once a month to watch new documentaries- they call it their documentary club. That's so AWESOME. I love how their club has only two people in it. Whenever I dream of starting all my silly clubs, I always imagine that they need to have at least seven people to count as a real club. I like the idea of only having two, it seems more genuine, doesn't it? Well, I'm off to plan my first documentary club gathering! Have a lovely thursday, cheers!

Pie crust art

(via fishfood)

Pie is a plus on any holiday, but they seem to go rather well with July celebrations.... soooo, HAPPY FOURTH EVERBODY!!!   We're celebrating by stuffing our faces with gyoza (because we're asian), ceviche (because its delicious), and "clam diggers" (because it's a secret family recipe... and it's totally not as gross as it sounds-trust!)

P.S.- Aren't these pie crust SOO COOOL!?!?! I LOVE baking and eating pies more than anything, but I'm sort of tired of that lumpy homemade look. I can't wait to try these awesome crusts, the shingled one reminds me of lace- soo pretty!

Bouncy ball heaven

Artist Peter Funch is selling limited edition prints from the day 250,000 rubber bouncy balls rushed down the streets of San Francisco for the Sony bravia commercial shoot. I can’t say much about the bravia, but I LOVE LOVE this commercial. The music is so endearing- and it impossibly captures so much emotion without the presence of people. It's magical and sweet. It's wondrous and I can’t get enough.

If you haven't seen it, here's the commercial PLUS behind the scene footage! My favorite part was to see the camera men and crew wearing helmets and safety masks hiding behind makeshift barriers!!

Content

Orchids are my favorite flower. They are beautiful and eerie. They are dainty but gallant. They seem fragile yet also so unyielding. But most of all they give you a sense that they are content.  Whether they are or aren't, only an orchid knows. Still, orchids are my favorite flower.

dream

Collin Firth

It's been a long while since I've posted about nerdy guys- you know, those full-of-quirk and has-it-goin-wrong-in-all-the-right-ways kind of guys that we all secretly love? (Well, let's be honest, I'm not so secretive about it... but that's a different story.) Earlier this morning I was looking through the highly entertaining nerd boyfriend blog, and came across a post of Collin Firth- and let me tell you how ecstatic I was. I seem to have an uncanny admiration for him- it's odd, I know, but ask anyone... I swear. It might have something to do with his dreamy accent, hysterically dry sense of humor, classically plain wardrobe, or just general dapperness (I mean, have you seen The King's Speech or A Single Man?!?). Anyways, thumbs up to you, nerdboyfriend.com . And if I may, I'd like to suggest a gent for your next post- I'd die to see Matthew Macfadyen! ...circa Pride and Prejudice???

Holy roly, me, oh my, you’re the apple of my eye

About a week ago I posted the music video of "A Million years" by Alexander of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. We all know that I love Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and anything that stems from them, but I ADORE this father daughter duo cover of "Home". That tiny little girl conveys more emotions that most people under 65 are capable of. I've always said that kids are grossly underestimated, and this video beautifully confirms it. SING IT GIRL!!!!!

The Crossing

Not only is this the coolest in-action photo snapped of the Beatles seconds before the iconic Abbey Road album cover was taken, but did you know that there is a live web feed of the very same Abbey Rd. crosswalk. If you're a Beatles fan and you haven't yet gotten the chance to make the walk yourself, the next best thing is to watch the hundreds of fans that flock there to take those few glorious steps themselves. It's hysterical and heartwarming to see people leap across with child-like joy. They do it in groups, in costumes, in absolute synchronization.... it makes me giddy with happiness! Try it, you'll love it... I swear- The Crossing - Abbey Road Studios.

A lovely cake stand

\
(via etsy)

I hate the rustic style something awful. I even hate the word rustic. I love organic shapes. I like natural mediums. And I can't get enough fresh colors. All of that seems a world away from rustic. To me, I guess, there tends to be something so unoriginally fake in rustic. On that note, I really do love this cake stand.... except, I'd very much rather see it made with the beautifully red and irregularly shaped (and enchantingly so) manzanita wood, or the smooth and creamy (and sometimes peely) birch wood!!! That would be so lovely, and so not rustic. It would be a really simple DIY, too!

Oh, the madness...

...that sweet, sweet madness. This looks like the freest most creatively infused place in all the world- the perfect nest for a gypsy soul. You have to know that something great (or someone great) calls this home....

Nostalgia

"A Million years" by Alexander (of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros).

This song makes me feel like summer is here. I like that. And the video shows exactly the sort of world I imagined all those times I read The Little Prince as a little girl. ...and the nostalgia sets in.

Sticks and mirrors

Oh, be still my little heart.

I couldn't tell you enough how I am obsessed with artist Lee Borthwick.... Everything Borthwick creates is sooo simple and uniform, but still so mesmerizing.

Happy Sun(ny)day

Best advice I've gotten all day long! It's sunny and breezy, and there are a million beautiful things to be thankful for!

Happiness

Sometimes I feel like that too.... but I wouldn't mind being stupid.

Claudine and Mia

Meet Claudine and Mia... Mom, Jenna (from Sweet Fine Day), occasionally posts the sweetest snippets of their conversations and daily adventures. And let me tell you, these girls know how to say it like it is. Here are a few of my favorite quotes:

Claudine “When you’re a grown up, all there is to do is talk and work, drink coffee, eat spicy food and watch kids. Booooring!”

Mia “Sometimes when I get excited I don’t show it. I just wiggle my toes instead.”

Claudine (as she admires her outfit): “ooh, I look so pretty. I love this dress. People are going to see me and say, ‘Hey, I like that kid!’”.

But, my all time favorite quote goes to Claudine:
Claudine (when asked why she is so cute): “Because I have a fat head.”
And so, at this time, I'd like to give Claudine a shout out and say, "Tell 'em girl! Coming from a fellow fat head, embrace it!! We have fat heads and we're fabulous!!!"

Ps. Not only are these girls nauseatingly adorable, they also have a super rad (and smokin') asain momma who owns and runs her own bakery with her husband!!! They totally just jumped ahead a few notches on my cool list...
